Gilligan's Island -Vintage 16mm Film Reels

We're fortunate to able to procure two Vintage 16mm Film Reels of Gilligan's Island. Amazingly, these 39 and 41 year old original film reels are in perfect mint condition. These are complete half-hour episodes.

On September 26, 1964, a simplistic and sappy television program began a course that would become far more than just a fateful trip. Gilligan’s Island, which consisted of just 98 episodes, is now one of the longest running syndicated television shows in history. Since the three original seasons ended more than 30 years ago, Gilligan’s Island has reached cult status with a tidal wave of devoted fans.

This popular television comedy begins with the shipwreck of the S.S. Minnow in a terrible storm. Gilligan, the Skipper too, a millionaire and his wife, a movie-star, the Professor and Mary Ann are all stranded on the island. Music by John Williams (II).

These vintage film reels are ultra-rare memorabilia pieces, because nearly all celluloid film reels were destroyed as TV studios converted to BETA and digital formats. In terms of rarity, there were only several copies per episode of studio film ever produced and these may very well be the only ones in existence.

What are their value?
It's extremely hard to put a price on these rare pieces of televison history. There are so few subtantial items available on the market to use for comparison. The following are a couple of examples of what our research has found and an analysis of the potential value of each film reel.

Exhibit A: Recently a single five-cent pack of Gilligan's Island bubble gum sold on eBay for $960!

Exhibit B: A ten cell strip of 16mm film framed with a basic black and white photo of Gilligan's Island currently sells at Retro Collection for $75.00.

Television film speed is 25 fps, so 25 fps x 60 seconds x 22 minutes = 33,000 frames per reel. Divide 33,000 by 10 frames yields 3,300 cell strips. 3,300 cell strips x $75 = $247.500 per reel! We don't recommend anyone cutting these intact historical film reels into pieces and reselling them, so this is just a simple analysis of their potential market value.

Each film reel is packed in its original film box and safely stored in a custom foam cushioned Zero Halliburton case (included).
